I know what...(created for The Color Room)

Have you ever known a person who possesses so many wonderful qualities that they truly are beautiful? I'm fortunate to know such a person.  She's an amazing talented woman with so many wonderful qualities, and she shares her wealth of die cuts with me too. How lucky am I? :)  Lydell's sketch for the May Special Edition inspired me to create this page, and I knew the minute I viewed it that I was going to work it.  It was so magical how once I started, it kind of finished itself, but then I think it felt that way because the person I scrapped it for is magical herself.

I so love using molding paste to give a page some texture and interest, and I used the lightest colors in the Special Edition Palette to help me set the tone.   I also used Mistra Hoolahan's rose tutorial using Donna Salander's Rose die cut for the larger roses in the Prima Nature/Fairy paper line collection.  Oh, you must give this sketch and try and see what wonderful magical powers it gives your page.

Thanks for looking.

Jailbirds (inspired by CSI's Case #19)

I love CSI.   CSI challenges push me to create a page, inspires me to be more creative and more importantly to journal my story.  I was never big on journaling (too lazy) but I can see the importance of them and they’ve now part of my creative process as well. I struggled with this sketch and even thought of throwing the page away because the empty spaces bothered my eye.  But, I had invested so much time on it and I do like certain aspects of it, so I soldiered on to complete it, but did not enter it in the challenge.  The bad sketch was a learning lesson for me.
Applications:
Bird: Dusty Attic bird chippie all dolled up with Gesso and crackle paint.  I combined some Moonshadow Mist and a gel medium together and then rubbed the combination into the crevices of the crackle to bring out the crackle effect.
Background technique:  Bits of book pages torn, treated with gel molding, and placed on top of white textured cardstock. After the torn book page bits dried, I placed a stencil on top of them and applied two difference colors mists/sprays to create the background.
 Journaling:
This is the first matchbook I’ve made on a page.  In the end, I think I made it too large but I see that they can be very useful, and I can imagine some more creative possibilities for them.  I think you’ll be seeing more of these from me. They’re like mini ATC’s but more purposeful as they are another place to store some journaling.  I was able to get several pages in this one.  Some photos might be fun to add too.

Tiny Dancer (for Dusty Attic May Sketch)

Mistra Hoolahan at Dusty Attic created the May Sketch.  Mistra’s sketches always include layers, and we scrappers love to include layers in our layouts.  I will definitely be using her sketches in the near future.  Check out her blog  http://sketchesbymistra.blogspot.com.au/r
I used Prima, Pion and Donna Salazar papers to create this page.  These papers blended so well together.

The little ballerina slippers were made out of clay and I used Glimmer Mist and Shimmerz to paint them.

The background was created with molding paste, stencil, Glimmer Mist, Shimmerz, music stamp, and cheesecloth.

Products:
Dusty Attic Baroque Corner (DA0543)
Dusty Attic Cornsilk Flowers (DA0806)
Prima: Fairy Tale Collection Papers
Donna Salazar Paper
Pion Paper
Martha Stewart Oak Leaf Punch and small leaf punch
Rayon Ribbon
Shimmerz (Egg Noggin)
Glimmer Mist (Blackberry Cordial) watered down with mineral water.
The Crafter’s Workshop chicken wire stencil (6 x 6)
Clay

Thanks for stopping by.  Let me know you’ve been here so that  I may stop by your blog and see what you’ve been up too.

Bloom (for C.S.I. Case #18)

Have you seen the jammed packed team of designers both in-house and outside over at C.S.I. this week?  This amazing talented team has produced some beautiful pages with this pretty palette.  Check them out if you haven’t already.

Michele’s printable’ s were so pretty and elegant and I used them to  help set the tone of the page.

 Evidence:

·         Tissue paper (green leaves, and strip of punched lace at bottom of page)
·         Buckles (on journal tag)
·         Flowers
·         Twist something:  rayon ribbon on journal tag
·         Bling: use rhinestones throughout the page

Testimony:
·         Inspiration word: Bloom and Growth
·         Journal about growth:  journal tag reads as follows:

“I’ve seen so much growth in each of you this spring:
James: dependable, responsible
Brian: makes certain others obey the rules
Nick: always ready to lend a hand to help.
Linda:  sizes up a situation quickly to solve a problem
Andy: the perennial entertainer.”

Special features:

The background was created with two colors of mists, chicken wire stencil, light molding paste and cheesecloth.
The little window casing next to the Prima resin window was made out of cardboard.

Sketch:  I’ve seen both Erin and Ingrid use a similar sketch and I liked it so much I wanted to give a try too. I used elements from both of their sketches and came up with this one.  Check out each of their sites to see the beautiful creations they made with this sketch.

Hope to see you post something at C.S.I. too.

Eyes (Featured at The Color Room #108)

Created for The Color Room #108

I recently read an article about the size of our eyes when we are a child remain the same throughout our lives and it’s only the size of the eye lids and surrounding eye area that grow until we’re adults. That stirred up some investigation on my part, and I set out to look at old photos of my eyes.   When I saw this weeks sketch with those empty rectangular shapes, I immediately thought about those pictures I used to test the theory and that eye article.  So here it is a page of Eyes.  I’m not too certain that that article is based off of any conclusive facts, but it was rather interesting.  And, even if it was based off of some fact, don’t you know there would be another article refuting it in the very near future? LOL.

The white space in the sketch also called out to me to be creative and create my own background using a stencil, light molding paste, mists and a stamp.

Background:
Glimmer Mist: Vintage Pink watered down a little
Shimmerz: Treasured Hymm
Shimmerz: Antique Lace pot of paint
Ingvild Bolme’s chalk fluid ink
Prima’s small post card script stamp
The Crafters Workshop 6 x 6 chicken wire stencil
Golden’s Light Molding Paste
Small spatula

Embellishments:
Manor House Flowers (that I won over at C’est Magnifique at a blog challenge)
Summer Love petite pink flowers purchased from Flying Unicorn (which by the way has fabulous customer service, and I think Alda possesses some magical powers to produce that kind of service).
Prima stick pin
Imaginarium bird cage purchased from Flying Unicorn
Fusible Webbing (pink lacy bits added around the page) purchased from Lindy’s Stamp Gang

Tools:
Martha Stewart punch for leaves
Spellbinders banner stencil that was lent to me by a very generous and dear scrapper.
